Tha Pro Scientia Naturae Foundation’s programs for supporting talents and the authentic location at the Than Memorial House has made the Than Memorial Camp come alive, which is a specific camp for supporting talents. The program of the Memorial Camp welcomes local highschool students and students from abroad (Hungary). Participants may get a deeper insight into topics related to scientific and artistic work of the Than brothers. Courses are held by teachers and experts with sound experience in their field of study as well as in supporting talents. Except for learning about and guarding our traditional and national values, our aim is to awake interest in science and art among young people, this way helping them in their professional orientation. The first Than Memorial Camp took place this year, and its participants came from three schools: the Than Károly Eco-School from Budapest, the János Garay Grammar School from Szekszárd and the Grammar School in Becej. The Than Memorial Camp is part of the National Talent Program and its main supporters are the Ministry for Human Resources of Hungary and the Pro Scientia Naturae Foundation.

The program is aiming at talent cultivation and talent discovering in thematic workshops which take place in the „Than” Memorial House, which is unique in our region thanks to its interactive exhibition that complements elementary school education. With workshops and talent cultivation, the Memorial House offers exciting learning and teaching possibilities, for schools, schoolchildren and other visitors. The aim of the program is to serve as a sustainable part of the Memorial House’s talent cultivation and professional orientation workshops.
Three schools, 60 schoolchildren and seven teachers took part in the workshops within the framework of this program. However, the project indirectly affected a larger number of people, since the schoolchildren are from three different settlements, from schools that are already acquainted with the wide range of activities in the Memorial House, while the number of activities keeps growing.

The Way of Sciences is a major science promoting program, which was organized first in 2013, with an intention to create a tradition. The main goal of the program is to present (in an understandable way) the significance of research and scientific development essential in the functioning of the region’s successful companies and institutions. This way, the program tries to draw attention to the significance of scientific professions in the region’s development. Since the basic objective of the program is the picturesque and attractive presentation of professional orientation and scientific branches characteristic for our region, we considered it important to invite all companies (MOL, OTP, Woods of Vojvodina, food production and processing companies, etc.), interactive parks important for professional orientation (Than Memorial House), institutions of education and research (Technical College in Subotica, Budapest Corvinus University – Department in Senta, etc.), which actively take part in the development and image building of our region.

Research and presentations during this project pointed at the advantages of farmsteads and rural farming, the potentials of ecological production in a healthy environment, as well as potentials in sale and quality assurance of environment friendly products made by modern agrotechnical means. We chose farmsteads in Hungary and Vojvodina, where we could create a modern, environment friendly and market oriented production by using financial means from project funding. We did quality assurance, labelling and trademark protection and put these products on the market, then analized how can we make rural farming more profitable in different economic surroundings (Hungary – EU-state, Vojvodina – non-EU-state).
We chose three farmsteads at each side of the border and envolved more than 25 experts in the research and development activities.

  1. Opening ceremony
  2. Expert forums
  3. Choosing the farmsteads
  4. Buying inputs for the farmsteads
  5. Analizing development efficiency
  6. Mapping further development potentials
  7. Farmstead days
  8. Publishing a collection of studies
  9. Closing ceremony
  10. Further plans, continuing research

Project details: Vojvodina, as a Northern province of Serbia, makes a single geographical unit with the Southern Great Plain region of Hungary. Vojvodina’s rich chernozem soil is the best of its kind in Europe, and makes the region’s agricultural potentials the best in the whole continent. During the past decades unfortunate economic policies pushed farmers into a disadvantagous position compared to farmers from other developped European states. According to the objectives of this project, we would like to help farmers in Vojvodina by using means of tenders in line with the „Szeged Process”, while diminishing the farmers’ disadvantage compared to other European countries by the means of research and education.
Based on Hungarian research results and higher education infrastructure, we would like to accomplish the project objectives below in two years time:

  • development of agricultural production, improving profitability,
  • rural agricultural development in order to make people stay in rural areas,
  • strengthening the integrative role of the mother within the family,
  • help in acquiring European standards and know-how, what will be useful after the project, too.
